Brentwood Park Primary School maintains a strong focus on Health & Physical Education. Weekly Physical Education lessons incorporate a range of sporting experiences with a consistent focus on fitness, motor skill development, game sense and teamwork.
Students in Years 3 to 6 also participate in weekly sport. Weekly sport is divided into summer and winter sport. Summer sport includes softball, cricket, basketball, volleyball and handball. Winter sport includes AFL, soccer, netball, T-ball and kickball. Essentially, the students are developing a range of skills that will ultimately include them in an interschool sport team in year 6.
Students in Foundation to Year 2 have elements of PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) during Physical Education classes. These elements assist students developing coordination through eye tracking, balance, climbing and sequential movements. Skills continually taught include running, jumping, skipping, throwing, catching, kicking and striking.
Additional Sporting Events
Brentwood Park Primary School has students representing the school in numerous sporting events. Events begin at school level, district level, division level, region level and state level. Students must be turning 9 years old the year of competition to be eligible for selection. Additional to summer and winter inter school sports we participate in include:

House Teams
The student population is divided into four house teams. House Captains are elected by the students and have a number of responsibilities including conducting school assemblies. In keeping with our ties to the history of Berwick the houses have been named after prominent residents and locations.
Cardinia
Takes its name from the Shire name. The first nation’s word
“kar-din-yarr” means ‘looking at the rising sun.’
Captains 2026: Rayona and Eddie
Casey:
Takes its name from the Shire name also. The Shire of Casey was named after Richard Gavin Gardiner Casey who had a great deal of influence on the region and Australia. He was Governor-General of Australia, author and aviator.
Captains 2026: Mahlia and Aarav
Gardiner:
Was named after Captain Robert Gardiner. He was one of the first European landowners in the district. Berwick is named after his birthplace in England – Berwick-on-Tweed.
Captains 2026: Irie and Caeden
Akoonah:
In 1948, the Berwick Agricultural Society required a larger area for the annual show. They secured some 15 acres of the Berwick Pound Paddock from the Lands Department. The picturesque area with a tree-lined frontage to Cardinia Creek was to be known as ‘Akoonah’ Park, being the first nation’s name for ‘running water’.
